The NMMOP Resolutions Committee crafted a resolution for adoption by New Mexico municipalities. The resolution encourages Congress to enact an amendment overturning the effects of Citizens United v. FEC (2010) and other court similar decisions, and permitting the federal government and the states to regulate and limit campaign spending, and establishing that corporations, unions and other special interests do not have rights under the U.S. constitution. The 28th Amendment Local Resolutions Subcommittee will be in charge of the initiative to work with boards of county commissions and city and town councils throughout New Mexico to pass the resolution, continuing to build momentum toward the eventual passage by Congress and ratification by the States of such an amendment.
The adoption by Santa Fe County is just the first step on this journey. From here we plan to go to the Sante Fe City Council and ask it to adopt it. After that, we plan to take to Albuquerque, Los Alamos, Taos and beyond!
In order to succeed in that broad goal we will need volunteer help particularly from constituents outside of Santa Fe County.
