NMMOP has crafted a resolution for adoption by New Mexico municipalities. The resolution encourages Congress to enact an amendment overturning the disastrous effects of Citizens United v. FEC (2010) and other erroneous SCOTUS decisions. The amendment would permit the federal government and the states to regulate and limit campaign spending, and establish that corporations, unions and other special interests do not have rights under the U.S. constitution. The 28th Amendment Committee will be in charge of the initiative to work with boards of county commissions and city and town councils throughout New Mexico to pass the resolution, continuing to build momentum toward the eventual passage by Congress and ratification by the States of such an amendment.
The adoption by Santa Fe County and the Sante Fe City Council is just the first step on this journey. After that, we plan to take to Albuquerque, Los Alamos, Taos and beyond!
In order to succeed, we will need volunteer help particularly from constituents outside of Santa Fe County. If you are interested in helping us with the 28th Amendment Resolution Initiative, please contact John House at email@example.com or Ishwari Sollohub at firstname.lastname@example.org.
