NMMOP has crafted a resolution for adoption by New Mexico municipalities. The resolution encourages Congress to enact an amendment overturning the disastrous effects of Citizens United v. FEC (2010) and other erroneous U.S. Supreme Court decisions. The amendment as described in the resolution would not only permit but also compel the federal government and the states to regulate and limit campaign spending, and establish that corporations, unions and other special interests do not have rights under the U.S. Constitution. NMMOP’s 28th Amendment Committee will be in charge of the initiative to work with boards of county commissions, ]city and town councils and their constituents throughout New Mexico to adopt the resolution, continuing to build momentum toward the eventual passage by Congress and ratification by the States of such an amendment.
The adoption by Santa Fe County and the Sante Fe City Council is just the first step on this journey. After that, we plan to take to Albuquerque, Los Alamos, Taos and beyond!
In order to succeed, we will need volunteer help particularly from constituents outside of Santa Fe County. If you are interested in helping us with the 28th Amendment Resolution Initiative, please contact John House at firstname.lastname@example.org or Ishwari Sollohub at email@example.com.
