In 2017, the 28th Amendment Language Subcommittee was formed to review the history of legislation and case law constituting campaign finance law in the U.S., as well as the various amendments to the U.S. Constitution that had been proposed to address problems within the campaign finance system. The result was NMMOP’s own version of the 28th Amendment, completed in March of 2018 (here). NMMOP’s March 2018 version of the 28th Amendment was submitted to and accepted by American Promise for consideration in its Writing the 28th Amendment project.
In 2019, NMMOP’s president, John House, started working on a new version of the 28th Amendment based upon continued research and thinking. It will contain basic elements of prior proposed amendments plus a few new ones. He hopes to have it completed by June 2020.
