Campaign Finance Amendment Writing Initiative

In 2017, NMMOP formed a subcommittee to review the history of legislation and case law constituting campaign finance law in the   U.S., as well as the various amendments to the U.S. Constitution  that had been proposed to address problems within the campaign finance system. The result was NMMOP’s own version of a campaign finance amendment, completed in September of 2017. That version of a proposed constitutional amendment can be found here.

In the 115th Congress, Rep. Jerry McNerny (D-CA) sponsored an amendment that contained one of the unique features tcontained in our 2017 proposed amendment—the provision that essentially excepts principal campaign finance committees for candidates from a general ban against corporations and other artificial entities making contributions and expenditures.
