October 14, 2019 General Meeting with Guest Speaker Viki Harrison of Common Cause

New Mexico for Money Out of Politics and Santa Fe Indivisible are pleased to be able to co-host Viki Harrison of Common Cause as our guest speaker at our October 14 general meeting.
Viki Harrison is currently Common Cause’s Director of State Operations. She is the author of “How One State Legislature Grappled with Creating an Ethics Commission,” published in Harvard Law & Policy Review, Vol. 13, Issue 2 (Summer 2019) which you will find available here, She will speak about the history of the effort to get a state ethics commission in New Mexico that culminated in the constitutional amendment passed by the voters in November 2018 and the enabling legislation for the state ethics commission, SB 668, passed in 2019.
Ms. Harrison joined Common Cause in January 2012. She previously served as the Executive Director of Common Cause in New Mexico (CCNM). Viki provides direct support to states on campaigns, fundraising, policy and program development. Under her leadership, CCNM passed resolutions against Citizens United, advanced voter registration, campaign finance reforms, and overhauled state ethics. She has built successful lobbying campaigns, election protection programs, local ballot measures and created coalitions for democracy in New Mexico.
Before joining Common Cause, she was the Executive Director of NM Repeal, where she led a successful campaign to abolish the death penalty in New Mexico. Earlier in her career, she was the Program Manager for Animal Protection of New Mexico, and part of the team that secured a ban on cockfighting in the state. Harrison graduated summa cum laude from the University of New Mexico with B.A. degrees in Women’s Studies and African American Studies.
Preceding Ms. Harrison’s presentation, Santa Fe Indivisible will conduct its general meeting from 6:30 – 7 pm. There will be a Q & A session after Ms. Harrison’s presentation followed by NMMOP’s general meeting.
